What makes students study hard?

Nowadays, students tend to study very hard. Study hard means spending almost of their time to learn their lessons, do exercises at school, at their teachers’ houses, at the extra – course centre or even at their home. So, what makes students study hard? A research about this topic from Students’ magazine shows that there are three main reasons leading students to study hard. The first reason is students’ want of getting high mark. The desire of winning the knowledgeable mountain is the second answer for this question. The last reason leading students to study hard is their hope of getting an ideal future job. Let’s make it clearer!

Everyone wants to have a good mark at school; therefore, study hard is the good way to achieve it. Most of students, especially students from Primary school to Junior high school, who don’t have clear, strong goal in enriching their knowledge, in getting their ideal job hope to express their ability through their marks. Why? According to dictionary, mark is an objective thing measures how much knowledge we can get. Moreover, according to teachers, family and friends, our high mark make them know we are good or not. In order to get a high mark, every student tries to study a lot. I can play as an example for this point. When I was in Junior high school, I spent much time to study English. It didn’t mean I loved English, it just means I wanted to get a high mark, to show that I was the number one in English at class. I’m sure many students have the same thought with me when they are young. Therefore, the desire of getting high mark can make students study hard.

Very interested in climbing up to knowledgeable mountain, many students choose the hard - working way. Have you ever asked why human beings just live in the Earth, not other planets? Why the electricity can run the fan? Whenever you yourself ask some question like those, I believe that you are very fond of getting much knowledge about society and science. At that time, you may be answered by someone or have to find the answer yourself. In order to solve those questions, everyone, you and me, we have to study hard by reading books, studying many theories or even practice a lot at class and at home to understand clearly. According to Students’ magazine research, about six over ten students in Science University shared that they all studied very hard everyday because they were interested in Science, they themselves want to explain their question about Science. Therefore, I have to say that this is a very meaningful reason, winning the knowledgeable mountain, causing students to study hard.

Last but not least, an ideal job requiring a good major knowledge motivated us to study hard. Nowadays, whenever we get any information from job interview, the very important requirement is good at our major because the employer don’t want to re-educate us anymore. That’s the reason why if we want to have an ideal job, we need to study very hard about our major knowledge from the book, even from the reality. When we study hard, we can find many theories about our major, know how to put it into real life, and even have some good ideas, good solutions for our job in future. When we graduate, we have a good luggage full of knowledge for our ideal job. Once again, I want to emphasize that an ideal job will be with us due to the fact that we have an amount of knowledge from studying hard.

In short, students’ desire of getting good marks, having much knowledge and being well-prepare for our ideal job makes them study very hard every day. I strongly believe that whenever we work hard, we can achieve our gold. So, try harder everyone!

Kinds of teaching style that you are experience so far.

I am now studying English as my major in university. Studying in university, I have chance to study and work with many good teachers who have their own teaching styles. Their teaching styles are sometimes the same, are sometimes different from the one I studied at high school. According to the way teacher and students work at class, we can classify their teaching style into 3 main kinds: teacher-centred teaching, student-centred teaching,  teaching that teacher and students have the same role at class.

 The first and very traditional teaching style is teacher-centred teaching. Why we say teacher is the central? Because in this teaching style, the teachers themselves plan the lesson at home and try to control the class following what they have already prepared at school. Everything happening at class is in their hands, they role at the central and their beloved students just receive their lesson passively. When I was at high school, every teacher used this way to teach us. It seemed effective for us when we were young in high school and had a little knowledge about the lesson and even about life. However, teacher-centred teaching does not work well when we study at university, especially with my major-English. We hardly have chance to practice speaking English when we work with the teacher who wants to be the central at class. She tries to talk, talk and talk without giving us to give our thinking about the lesson. The result of this course is not good, we can listen well but we could not talk what we have in our mind. Therefore, with this style, the teacher has to work very hard at home and at school while their beloved students just absorb the knowledge passively. Working very hard but the result is not very good for the teacher when their students could not swallow everything they teach because of lack chance to give their questions and talk at class.

The second but very popular teaching style at school nowadays is student-centred teaching. The students are the central at class means students have to prepare the lesson at home and try to catch the chance to work at class. In this teaching style, teachers still have to prepare their work at home but they also have to enrich their knowledge as much as possible because their students may ask them some extra questions. With this teaching style, all teacher and students have to work hard to have a good lesson. The popular activity for this teaching style at class is making the presentation. Some students about 3 or 4 people prepare the lesson with powerpoint at home, present it at class and the teacher will listen, give comment and explain some questions for their students. It seems to be effective when everybody has to work but it also has a limitation that the students waste time to present at class and the teacher does not have time to explain more about the lesson. My “English for computing” class is an example for this style. Thanks to this teaching style, we- srudents in "English for computing" class- ourselves find information about computers at home and have chance to practice giving presentation at class. However, we just understand clearly about the lesson that we are responsible for having presentation and we hardly swallow the lesson given by our friends. Cannot understand the lesson, we also don’t have chance to ask our teacher because the presentation of our friends always takes a lot of time at class. That’s why the third style below becomes more popular at school besides this second style.

The third but the most effective teaching style is teaching that teacher and students have the same role at class. Both teacher and students have to work very hard at home with the new lesson so that they together give questions and give the answers for the lesson at class. With this teaching style, students and teachers all have chance to understand and give their thinking about the lesson at school through their discussion the lesson and something related to the lessons. This teaching style is very popular at universities in some developed countries like USA, Australia, Singapore and England, etc. One of my friends who are now studying overseas in Australia shared about this teaching style that he had to read a lot of materials and do assignment at home. Whatever he cannot understand is taken note and discussed by him, together with his friends and his lecturer. Thanks to this style, my friend's study is now much better because he himself knows how to be self-study, how to make questions and how to solve problems together with his friends and his professor. Therefore, I’m sure that this is the most effective teaching style that teacher and students in university should follow. 

According to the way teacher and students work and study and teach at home and at school, we can classify the teaching style into three kinds above. I hope that teachers and students can find out the good way to get the knowledge in order to be successful in teaching and learning.

ENJOY NEW PAPER FOR ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY!!!

_COPYRIGHT LAW_

In 2005, Vietnam signed into the Berne convention, which is the international convention for the protection of literary and artistic work. With this convention, Vietnam has promised to protect the copyright and punish someone who makes the copy illegally. However, in terms of consumers, very important though the copyright is, I - one of Vietnamese people - didn’t care about that convention, I just cared about how to buy a product as cheap as possible. So, I used to go along with the people who made the copy illegally and sold it with the lower price. I’m sure that I would continue to buy illigal - copied books, DVDs, CDs, etc if I had not joined in the meeting about introducing Berne Convention and Copyright law in the Youth Cultural House. Thanks to this useful meeting, I now really respect Berne convention and strongly believe that copyright law should be applied all over the world.

Joining in this meeting, I recognized that copyright law was the creators' right that protects their own products from illegal copying or selling. Have you ever asked yourself why others can create a product but the others cannot? The difference between them is that some - the writers, filmmakers, photographers- can imagine and convert their imagination into real product while some- we - the consumers - don’t have any ideas to make the product, or don’t have ability to put ideas into real things. In order to imagine and transform their ideas into their paintings, novels, a piece of music or new inventions, the creators have to devote their own talents, their time, their efforts and even their money. For example, Bill Gates had to spend his own time, his talent and even his money to make Microsoft software- the most popular and useful software in the world. So, is it fair for the inventors when their heart-made product is used and sold without their permission? Of course, NO. That’s why we need the copyright law to protect their work and their product from illegal use. Everybody, no matter where they are, no matter which country they belong to have to respect the inventor’s work by respecting the copyright law. Therefore, copyright should be applied all over the world in order to protect the father’s product and their hard work.

Thanks to the meeting about protecting the copyright in the Youth Cultural House, I know that we need copyright law to encourage the authors to create. Imagine we were not the consumers; we were the writer of Harry Porter book, would we continue to write this book when our books were made a large number of copies illegally? I’m sure that more than eight over ten people will say NO. There are two reasons for this answer. First, without copyright law, the writer is unknown because when the readers buy the illegal copy of an interesting book like Harry Porter, they may not care about the writer or even may not be supplied the information of the writer from their illegal copied book. What will happen? Many readers are interested in this book but the writer’s hard work is not mentioned and their name is even strange with their book’s fans. So, how can the writer have motivation to continue on creating the next new interesting one? Second, without the Copyright Law, they- the creators do not benefit but the illegal stealing ones earn a lot of money from their heart-made products. However, with some authors, profit is a  motivation for them to create. Theirfore, copying illegal products of these authors may stop their creation and lead many valuable ideas to be still on the paper. Consequently, copyright law should be accepted all over the world before the creative makers don’t have any motivation to imagine and convert the imagination into the real product.

         We cannot deny that making the copies of a book; a CD… is much cheaper than the product that is protected by copyright law because we just have to pay for the papers and the printed ink, not for the writers’ intellectual properties. However, if we continue to do this illegal work, we may not have any valuable products in the near future because the authors do not have motivation to create any more. Moreover, we agree that the developing countries’ people have to face with financial problem when the copyright are applied. They- most of poor people in developing countries don’t have enough money to buy the quality products- the ones are protected by copyright law.   That is the reason why they think that the copyright law shouldn’t be applied in their countries. It seems to be right in short term but it is not good in the long one. When the copyright law isn’t applied in the poor countries, at first they can save an amount of money, but after that they will not be shared the new technique, new inventions and new knowledge from many intelligent authors. As a result, the developing countries without the copyright law will always face with financial problem because of lack the new inventions for their country development. Remember that no one is ready to share their intellectual product for the ones who always want to use their product illegally. Therefore, we now all agree that the copyright law should be applied all over the world, both developing and developed countries in order to have a lot of valuable products from the authors now and forever.

Whenever we read an interesting story from a book, listen to a piece of unforgettable music from a CD or watch a romantic but funny movie from a DVD, make sure that our book, our CD and our DVD are legal copied products. Using the product protected by copyright law, we not only respect the right of the creators for their hard work but also take the chance to be shared the unique ideas and products in the future. Hope that we all enjoy the legal copied product and remember that our country has already signed into Berne convention. 

PROCESS ESSAY

SEA FESTIVAL IN VUNG TAU CITY!

VT city-my beloved hometown- is one of the most famous beach places  that attract the visitors in VN and the foreigners a lot. There are many interesting holidays in my province like the international kite holiday, World food festival and Sea festival, etc. However, Sea festival is the most common interesting festival in April every 4 years in VT. Because it only has once every 4 years, we - people in VT- take much time and effort to celebrate it with lots of fascinating activities during 1 week for preparation and 5 days for celebration.

One week before the Sea festival, we try to prepare carefully for this occasion. During one week, everybody join hands to make our province much more beautiful and attractive because it is the golden chance  to develop leisure industry in my hometown. First, every street is cleaned and decorated with the unique Flags of the festival, with many colorful flowers grown along the street and with many Diode lights on the trees. Second,  nearly 100 students from high schools and BRVT university volunteer to collect the garbage and clean along the beach during 3 days before the festival because beaches will take place most of activities in the festival . People, especially business people and tourist guides are also very busy to be well-prepared for the festival. While the traders try to think about the best strategy to attract the visitors and prepare the high quality products for the trade exhibition, the tourist guides also work very hard to plan interesting tours around BRVT province during 5 days for the visitors, especially for the foreigners. In 1 week, we- everybody in BRVT province- try our best to be well-prepare for the both important and interesting festival.

Thanks to the good preparation, 3 first days of the beach festival are very attractive with many activities. At the beginning of the festival, usually at 8 a.m on the third of April, the very big and fascinating Opening meeting which takes place in the main beach field - Behind Beach Field in VT -welcomes nearly 6000 visitors. In this meeting, visitors have information about the festival and enjoy the live show music from the Youth in BRVT and many famous singers in VN. At the end of the Open meeting, the organization announces the start of sculptural competition. This competition is usually taken part in by 40 teams coming from the art or architectural universities in VN and some Asian countries such as Laos, China, Japan,… With the topic of protecting our sea, each team has 3 days to complete the sculptural work by sand. While many visitors are interested in watching the sculptors' work or swimming nearby, others who like playing on the beach under the sun play some sea sports  in 2 first days. On the third day of the festival, people have chance to observe the Kite contest in the morning and afternoon. With the most beautiful, creative and highest flying Kites, 5 teams in 20 teams chosen by the observers will compete one another in the final day of the festival. In the evening, visitors are extremely excited about the Beauty contest and the concert on the beach. In 3 first days of Sea beach festival, I’m sure that the visitors will be very fun with these above activities.

2 days left of the holiday are very useful and unforgettable for the travelers. Very early in the forth morning, the trade exhibition starts; it is the time for commerce. In this exhibition, the visitors have chance to buy many beautiful souvenirs made from oyster skin and sea stone and unique products  like T-shirts, hats with the icon of the Sea festival in VT as well as the fresh or dried seafood. The goal of this exhibition is introducing the hand-made products of VT and donating for the poor in my province so that the price is always acceptable. Hence, the tip for the visitors is that they should buy souvenirs in this exhibition if they don’t want to waste time and money to buy outside. After that, they join in the final round Kite competition and they once again surprise with the professional skill of the players in flying the sky. At the sunset, the visitors will be satisfied with the Miss of the beauty contest who is chosen to become the representative for VT beach’s tours.  In the final day, the victory team of the sculptural competition is recorded; they together with the travelers talk about the meaning of product, advise everybody to protect our sea and take a photo with them. At the end of the fifth day, we - people in VT - will serve the visitors many kinds of delicious fresh seafood and bring them an unforgettable night with the impressive firework in Bach Dinh Mountain. Therefore, the 2 final days give the visitors the real happiness; we hope that the visitors will have a good time in VT from the beginning to the end.

Sea holiday is the most interesting chance for the visitors to relax and enjoy the sea in VT and the most meaningful chance for us to introduce our hometown and our leisure industry, to donate money for the poor. So, are you free in next April? Try once in VT, you will see how interesting our Sea holiday is!

The letter for the future Global citizens!!!!!!

Dear everybody,

I am very happy to write this letter for all of you-people around the world about the Global citizen’s qualities. Do you know who the Global citizen is? They are the ones who are ready to break their country border down to go to the world and join hands together to bring Peace, Happiness and Love for our own world. In order to become a good Global citizen, the one should have Global quality. According to the criteria of the Global citizen, we can classify the Global quality into three main qualities: Empathy, Responsibility and Equality. All my friends, I will tell you more about these three main categories of the Global quality.

The most important quality of the Global citizen is Empathy. Have you ever helped someone in need because of your empathy with them? I am sure the answer will be YES for most of us. However, I wondered how many of us had already helped the ones who were not the same country with us. Just a small number of us do that, right? While you and I hardly say “Yes”, the Global citizen will be always ready to help everybody in the world because of their empathy with everyone. The global citizen will not just work for their country or just open their heart with the one they know, they travel and help other people in other countries without thinking about their material benefits. Their empathy bring them the valuable spirit benefit is to share and to help the poor and suffered people because many people in our globe need our empathy such as the children need us to teach them some lessons, the poor need us to give them food and show them how to work for the food, the suffered people from the war need us to release their wound. Therefore, the Global citizens with their empathy helps others a lot. So, what do you think about that, my friends?

The second important quality is our responsibility with the world. The British author-Thomas Paine said that: “my country is the world and my religion is to do good”. That saying becomes the aim for the Global citizen. If you and I just think about our benefits, our country’s benefits because we love ourselves and our countries, the Global citizen will erase the border of their country and the world to do their responsibility with our own house-globe, with our own relatives-people around the world. For example, with the situation in Japan recently, while we felt very sorry for them but we do not have any help for them except for a little money to reduce their suffering, the global citizens are ready to travel to Japan to do their responsibility with Japanese people such as helping them to rebuild their country, sharing suffering with them because the Global citizens know Japan is the part of their own country-the world. Therefore, the global citizens are really become the leader of the world who have their responsibility with our own world. Are your ready to become a good leader of the world, my friends?  

The last but not less important quality of the Global citizen is Equality. Everyone, you and I, no matter what country we come from, what religion we belong to, what color our skin is and what social economic group we are in, we have the same rights and needs. With the same needs and rights, everyone from the Africa, through the Europe, across the America to the Asia receive the help from the Global citizen. They give us the same help, the same hope, the same happiness although you might be in Europe and I might come from Asia. The global citizen suddenly woke us up from the long sleep of distinguishing between the yellow skin people and other skins or between the white skin and order skins,…  They-the global citizen give us the chance to know although life is sometimes not fair among many countries, it is still good because they-the global citizens have made life much more equal day by day. The global citizens can be very equal with everybody in the world. How about you, friends?

Together with empathy, responsibility and equality, we can change the world, can make the world more beautiful and much more peaceful like the global citizens. STUDENTS' LIFE AND THE CONTEXT OF HIGH INFLATION

STUDENTS and INFLATION

Inflation is a general, continous increase in prices. When it comes, our money will lose real value in the market. It is easy to see this problem in our life recently as we can only buy fewer goods and services with the same amount of money than before. According to some articles, in the first three months of the year 2011, the inflation rate went up to 6.1% whereas the GDP only increased to 5.5%. That means the inflation is becoming high in our country’s economy. In this time, life of many people are not easy at all. Everybody coming from a small village to a big city finds it difficult to live with “the price storm”: the farmers have troubles with their pockets, the workers feel tired with their financial problems and the managers get headache with their business,... How about students at university? Are they affected by the high inflation? Of course, YES. Most of students at university are specially influenced on because they come from and are supported by the farmers or workers or managers’ family, etc and because they cannot earn a lot of money or even cannot earn any money to struggle with the increasing price. That’s why most students are now facing with many difficulties; however, with the same situation-high inflation, some cannot overcome and fail while some can learn many good lessons to be much more successful in life.

Although life of students in the past and the one in the context of high inflation are the same in some cases, they have some changes that cause lots of troubles. One of the similarities of the students in the past and now is getting support from their beloved family because they spend almost of their time to study their major and learn some skills for their future life. Like in the past, students now still spend their supported money for many kinds of fee: school fee, rent-house fee, transportation fee, etc per month. Besides their similarities, students’ life in the past and the one now have much more differences that cause many problems. First, they have to face with many increasing fees while the supported money from their parents are fixed or just a bit much than the one before. In the past, the price of a bus ticket was 3000VND, now it is up to 4000VND so every month they have to pay at least 60.000VND much to go to school  and come back home. According to Students’ newspaper, students also have to deal with the increasing rent-house fee in the high inflation. It is said that an average student has to spend at least 50.000VND higher for their rent-house per month. When the inflation is high, price go up every month, even every week, the price of the food also become a trouble for students. With 50.000 VND, just before Tet holiday 2011, a student could come back home quickly with a lot of vegetables, meat and fish from the market for a whole day whereas they hardly buy nutrimental food for all day with this amount of money now. Hardly buying healthy food with their own money, students also face with health problem. Everything - transportation fee, rent-house fee, the price of the food is going up, students’ study are badly affected  because of getting stress from spending their fixed money for the whole month. That’s why they have to save money to struggle with the “price storm” instead of buying their major materials, their favorite books to enrich their knowledge so they now lose chance to read book, one kind of effective study ways. While students could get some extra outdoor activities to learn some skills for their future life and some extra course like Enlish course to study in the past, they now may cut off them because of lack of  money. With some changes of their life in the increasing price, students’ life nowadays are not very easy at all.

In the context of high inflation, some students cannot overcome the troubles so they are easy to lose their way in life. There are some reasons that students cannot deal with their problem. First, they are familiar with spending money for some activities that waste an extra money per month while everything is increasing. For example, some school-boys wasting their money to go to the pub, dance and drink in the bar instead of saving money for increasing price of many fees, etc. Some school-girls spend their money to go out for shop, for spa, for eat without thinking of the increasing price happening around them. They might be OK in the past but not in the context of high inflation. Spending money for these activities, they find it hard to cover all the increasing fees. That’s why students are easy to fall into debt. Falling into debt means they cannot overcome their problems in the high inflation and then they drop school easily in order to earn money to enjoy their hobbies and pay their debt. Second, some students try to overcome the troubles coming from the high inflation by working part-time. It sounds a good solution but in fact it can make them lose their way in life. When the inflation is bad, jobs is becoming the most effective medicine for the virus-inflation. Therefore, it is hard to find a good part time job. That is the reason why most of them spend a lot of time to work hard without studying and why some of them are forced to do the bad job, or bad behaviour to earn money. Very busy to work, they cannot have a good result in study. Doing bad work, bad behaviour to earn money means that they cannot control themselves in front of money. Consequently, some students really lose their way in life in the context of high inflation because they cannot go through the problem of lack of money.

While some lose their way in life, some can learn many lessons in the context of high inflation. With them, high inflation is the chance  to know how to go through the problems of lack of money by saving money and earning money in the good ways. In the context of high inflation, saving money is the best way that many people, especially students like. In order to save money, they try to manage their money in the pocket by considering which products they should buy, which ones they should not. They find it interesting to ride their bicycle to school instead of using the bus to save a little money and practise their health. And the other way for them to win the high inflation is buying the promotional product from the supermarket to save a little money. Working part time is another choice for students to deal with the increasing price. They can ask the teacher to give them some advices and decide which job is the best to do. My friend is an example for that point, she works as a tuitor three days a week under her teacher's commendation and has enough money to pay for housing fee and buy some books. Others try to study hard to get the scholarship to struggle with high inflation. From some students’ magazine, it is said that many students can get scholarship because of the motivation from the high inflation. That’s true. Some students really want to reduce the burden of finance in their parents’ shoulder so they try to study hard and earn money from their study result. With these good solutions, some students can learn such good lessons that they could not study when the inflation did not come such as saving money, earning money from part time job and from their study. In the future, they may be very successful because of being brave to go through with the trouble like high inflation.

High inflation is causing many problems for students at university. It makes some students’ life harder than ever and makes them easily to lose their bright future. However, the increasing price brings many good lessons for the others who can catch the chance in difficulties. Therefore, high inflation is not really a bad context in students’ life but a good chance when they know trouble is a friend and try to go along with it in the right way, students can be successful with it.

BROAD STATEMENT:

Life with the students in university is not easy at all. They have to face with many problems everyday. For examples, students get stress with some hard subjects, live under the pressure of the scores and even have troubles with their first love in life. Moreover, in the context of high inflation nowadays, students seem to be much more stressful than ever because of the increasing price besides some problems above. The price of everything has been increasing whereas the students just have a fixed amount of money from their parents and hardly have the support from the school or the government. Therefore, a pretty difficult question is created for almost of students who are affected directly by the high inflation is that how to get deal with it?

Anecdote:

“Sorry Mrs, maybe tomorrow I will pay the money for you”, Nam said.

“Tomorrow? No!!! This evening or you will get out of my house!”, the landlord shouted.

“Please, Mrs! My mom will send money for me tomorrow! I’ll pay for you as soon as I get the money!”, Nam tried to convinced.

“Don’t talk anymore! This evening is the deadline!” she said and went away.

Listening all the conversation between them, I sighed and felt sad for Nam, one of students who is affected by the high inflation. One month recently, everyday his landlord comes and asks him the rent-house fee but he could not pay for her. Like many students in the context of the high inflation, Nam does not have enough money to pay for the increasing prices such as the higher school fee, the higher bus ticket’s price, the higher living fee,… And now, he will be out of house if he does not pay money for his rent house. It is such a big problem that Nam or many other students have to face in the fast increasing price context today. Consequently, I wondered what they should do to overcome this problem in order to live and study well in this time.

Quotation:

“Save money, only use it for something necessary and try to forget your favorite hobbies that waste money like going shopping, going dancing in the bar,…- in the high inflation context, my all dear students”. It is the first useful tip of my soft skill teacher for most of students who have to face with the increasing price problem recently. He- my soft skill teacher also advised us to work part time, manage the time suitably and try to study hard to deal with the high inflation. Let’s dicuss more about those solutions to know why students should follow my teacher’s advice.

Para 1: Using Cause and Effect paragraph: students should save money in order to live in the context of high inflation. Give some reasons that students cannot save money and give some effects of wasting money in this time in order to advise them to save money.

They cannot save money because they are familiar with wasting money for using cellphone, having parties together, going shopping,…-> they are easy to have difficulty in finance, feel stressful with this problem,  could not concentrate on their study, and easy to drop school in the context of high inflation => they should forget their wasting-money activities and try to save money instead.

Managing the time while the price is increasing fast is the key for students to overcome such a big problem. Knowing how to use our time per day can help us to work part time but it is not influenced badly on our study.  Owning the time by ourselves, we can also get some special prizes, gifts from some contests by joining  some outdoor activities after doing our duty at school so we can get money or some products by luckiness or by our effort. -> students can go through the high inflation context b/c of managing the time suitable.

Try to study can help student to get a good study result to get the scholarship and get much more knowledge in order to have some good solutions for our country’s inflation now and in the future.

THE POWER OF WRITING

Wring is a very difficult subject that I have to study from the primary school until now. When I was young, I found it difficult to write something and wondered that why we- students had to study it. However, everything has changed, I now love writing so much because I know how helpful writing is in our life like recording things, making us more creative, smarter and even helping us show our problems and express our emotion.

Writing with its power not only helps us to record things, but also makes us more creative and smarter . Do you know when writing was created? According to some historical books, writing first appeared as people wanted to record things that they had already done in order to let the next generations know about their life and transmit their experience with the young people in their society. Thanks for Writing- a great invention, we now know how people lived in the past through their handwriting although they lived in the hundred year ago. With writing, we have also received many huge inventions and a lot of  great worth principals from our front-generation like the invention of telephone by Alexander Graham Bell or why the apples can fall from the tree through Issac Newton’s Gravitational Force by their own writing papers. Writing can also help us to remember our lessons through our notes which we write in the class because noone can be sure that they can swallow everything they study in class without writing the lesson down. Moreover, writing makes us, especially students more creative and smarter. When we record lessons in the class, we have to take note as fast as possible and just something very important. That is the time for our brain to choose what is important and what is necessary to write, day by day that skill will help our brain to work more effective and more logical in recognising something. Of course, with our logical and active brain we can  create something new from the old one easily, right?  It’s not enough, writing can also help us much more smarter. When we want to write  something, we need to read, to learn more about it and even try to think and express our thinking about that in the paper. Learning, thinking and trying to write what we read from the books and what we have from our experience in our words can make us smarter day by day and year by year. Therefore, writing helps us to receive the humans cilivization from our front-generation as well as transmit our experience for our young generation in the future,  helps us to remember information by recording things and  makes us more and more creative and smarter by doing our own handwriting paper.

Have you ever found it difficult to  show your problems or even express your feeling by speaking? I’m sure that there comes a time in everyone’s life when we could not open our mouth to talk about those things. And Writing is the great  way to solve that difficulty. I once made a survey with my friends whose majors are English about when they really want to enjoy writing. Some of them, about four over ten people said that they would like to write when they wanted to show their problem that they could not tell with someone. And most of them, around six over ten people enjoy writing whenever they want to express their emotions or their feelings. They all agree that writing helps them a lot in showing their real feeling which is not very easy to speak out sometimes. From some other reseaches on some articles, people can show and overcome their all troubles  when they keep diary – one of the forms of writing. I strongly believe with this point. To me, whenever I have trouble with my roomates, I don’t want to talk with anyone, I just want to go to the quiet place and write everything which causes that problem in my diary to know whether I am right or wrong and choose the suitable way to solve my problem. With some impatient people, that is the stupid way to show the problem  but if they try, they will know how effective it works. In an argument, speaking out everything at first make us comfortable but not for the others. At that time, we are too bad-tempered to recognise which is true and which is false so we are easy to be stressful, get mistake and hurt other people. Therefore,  writing  our problem down is a better way to keep calm, reduce stress and have a good solution  than speaking out everything when we couldn't control ourselves in an argument. Moreover, writing helps us to express our emotion with other people. Writing is a very traditional way to give our love, send our best wishes or even share our secret with someone we really love. Giving a writing paper, a writing letter for someone can helps us show our real feeling with them. At that time, we might make them smile or even cry because of being happy by our writing paper. Why don’t you write a letter or just a piece of paper for someone you love now? You will see how happy they are when they read your paper. I’m sure that it will be pretty awsome. Consequently, writing is one of the best ways  to show our problem or even express our feeling.

Thanks for writing, we all get many great benefits from it such as  keeping information, training our brain, showing  problem and expressing emotion. However, we, especially students in school should try our best to learn how to write effectivelly in order to be successful in life with our writing skill.

What are the causes of problems in family relationship (between parents and children)?

Parents, children and their problem in relationship are mentioned as a hot topic on the newspaper, magazines, internet, even on TV programs,… very often. The problems are misunderstanding, having different lifestyle and violence in family. There are some reasons that cause the problems in family relationship, between parents and children.

The most popular reason  in family relationship is: “parents don’t have time to take care of their children”. Mom and Dad now are both very busy with their job. They try to work with all their heart to get a lot of money in order to support their family, especially their children. Very busy with their work, parents hardly have freetime to cook, eat, talk, discuss, watch TV – activities that maintain our family relationship – with their children. Of course, children are very lonely and unhappy. They have difficulty sharing something with their busy parents because when their parents go to work, they still sleep; when parents come home, they go to bed already. That is the reason why some of them hate their parents and join in some bad activities like watching black web, drinking beer and smoking when they’re very young, playing violent games because they are very lonely or because they want their parents to focus on them. In this time, parents are too busy with their work, children are also busy with their negative activities. Parents get stressed from their busy work, children are affected  by violent games. Consequently, they misunderstand each other because of lacking time living together, they are easy to be violent in family relationship: parents take off their stress into their beloved children with a small mistake. Children become a murderer who kill their parents because their parents don’t give them money to play games or stop them doing something badly. So, parents don’t have time to take care of their children can cause problems in parents and children relationship like misunderstanding and violence in family.

Generation gap is the second reason that cause the problem between children and their own parents. Children and parents both have the difference in lifestyle because of their distance in age.  My parents and I are in generation gap. My parents are 30 years older than me so that we are very different in lifestyle and in our thought. While my parents think that rock music are very crazy, I think it is interesting. While they liked me-a girl taking cooking course, I like taking the computing course last summer. I still remember how stressful we were. I did not dare to talk with my daddy anymore, it would become a big problem if I didn’t wish that I would cook every meal to train my cooking ability and listen rock music in my own room with low volume.  According to some magazines, generation gap makes many problems in familly relationship, especially between parents and teenagers or adult daughters or sons. They have different ideas in hobbies and thought like my parents and I so that they are easy to get argument and hurt each other’s feeling because all of them think that they are true. Therefore, generation gap is one of the causes to lead the problems in family relationship.

Problems between children and parents are very common nowadays because parents are too busy to earn money for their children and because of the generation gap. I think that parents have to consider of earning money and teaching children, remember that teaching our beloved children is much more important than earning money. We cannot deny generation gap but we should try to limit the difference between children and parents in order to avoid the problem in family relationship.

My favorite food – dried chicken!!!

I enjoy eating dried chicken – one of my favorite food at home, made by my beloved mom and at KFC restaurant, made by skilled chefs. Eating dried chicken at home and at KFC restaurant, I can feel the sililarities and even the differences although they are both “dried chicken”.

The first words to describe this dish in both places is “crisp and fresh”. I am now still attracted by the crisp crust covering outside and the soft chicken inside like the first time I ate this food at home and at KFC restaurant. I really love the moment that I sink my teeth into the crust made from a very special crisp flour and listen to the brittle sound from chewing the coat and be surprised with the soft chicken inside whenever I eat it at home or at the KFC restaurant. The second similarity of fried chicken made by my mom and by KFC restaurant is that it is very, very fresh. I know that because my mom is very careful with choosing the chicken to fry, she told me it would be not good for our heath and our taste if the chicken was not fresh. With my experience in eating dried chicken, I’m sure that chickens in KFC restaurant are also chosen very carefully. Crisp  and fresh make  dried chicken at my home and at KFC delicous and it makes  dried chicken become the first and the best dish in my menu whenever I want to eat something.

Nothing is absolutely the same as others, dried chicken dish at home with dried chicken at KFC restaurant are not the same in some ways: the way to enjoy and the way to feel. I usually eat dried chicken at home with ginger sause as a appetizer to start the meals in special occations like Tet holiday or birthday parties,… because my mum is very busy with her job so that she doesn’t have much freetime often to cook this dish. While I  only enjoy dried chicken with ginger sauce at home in some special chances, I can eat this dish with the special spicy and  piquant sauce whenever I like being in the air condition and being served KFC restaurant with my close friends. And if I enjoy dried chicken as the appetizer at home, I eat this dish with some chips or hamburgers with a big glass of pepsi as a plentiful meal. Of course, eating at restaurant is much more expensive than eating at home, I have to spend almost of my savings in one week to have lunch or dinner with my favorite food- dried chicken in one time at KFC restaurant while I spend nothing to enjoy it at home.  To be honest, eating dried chicken at home is a little bit delicous than eating it at the restaurant because I can feel how caring my mom is through my favorite food: she must love us-our family so much when she spends hours to fry a big dish that is full of dried chicken beside the high temperature coming from the gasoline cooker. Moreover, I am happier to enjoy this food with my family than enjoy it alone or even enjoy with my friends at the restaurant because with me nowhere is warmer than my home, nobody is more important than my family. Although there are some differences between eating at home and at KFC restaurant, I still love both of them- the dried chicken that made by my mom and the one made by skilled KFC chefs.

I am sure with everybody that it is excellent to eat dried chicken in KFC restaurant like its slogan “Finger lickin’ good” and you can also be addicted if you try my mom’s fried chicken dish once. Athough they are both made by chicken, are both crisp and fresh, they are also enjoyed in the different ways that give me the different feeling, I love both of them.

Should parents spank their children?

   I once visited my aunt whose son is 4 years old. When I just came to the living room, I saw my aunt with the cane in her hand hitting strongly my cousin although he cried, shouted and apologised to her so much. Seeing the bowl full of soup on the table, I guessed that he must have been lazy to eat. I ran to him, hugged him tightly and asked my aunt to stop hitting him so that I would help her to feed him. After being spanked, he seemed scared to eat all the soup in just  5 minutes and fell asleep after that. Looking my innocent cousin, I wondered why parents always use spanking to punish their children like that. Don’t they know  spanking can effect to their children’s physical and mental development and even form a bad habit and bad behaviour in their children?

   Spanking is not a good way to discipline children when they make mistake because it affects not only physical development but also mental development. Children are always spanked by their parents because of being lazy to eat, to study and because of making a mess, having the bad behaviour. However, should parents always use spanking as the only way to correct their mistakes? The answer must be NO. According to some researches, spanking can affect badly to children's physical development. We all know that children are very easy to be haunted something bad happen in their life so that they will be very easy to keep everything about being spanked in their mind. And sleeping is the time to remind of these things so that children cannot sleep well at night because of scaring to be spanked. Cannot sleep at night means that children lose their chance to be taller and that is one of the reason for spanked children not to develop as good as the others in physical development. Moreover, some American scientists said that children's mental development can be worse when they are hit too often. It is proved in IQ figure: spanked children from 2 to 4 years old will have 5 marks lower than children who are not punished like that too often. That means spanking can stop children from being more intelligent, one of the sign of mental development. We all cannot deny that spanking can help parents to stop their children from doing wrong things, but it is a very high price for parents to teach their children by spanking because spanking can be too easy to limit their children in physical and mental development.

  Spanking can form bad habit and wrong behaviour in children. Children who are punished by hitting too often tend to tell lie and become more violent in their action. My cousin’s situation is an example for this opinion. I came back my aunt’s house lately and saw my cousin was eating by himself very well. Talking with my aunt, I finally recognised that she had stopped using coporal punishment with her son after taking him home from psychological hospital. She said that: “The more she hit him, the worse behaviour he get”. Spanking made him scared just at that moment, he would have done the same thing in the next time if she hadn’t reminded him of it. To be much more worse, he seemed to tell lie very often with everyone because he wanted to protect himself from being punished by physical discipline. And he didn’t want to share with her anything happening around him such as the colour he liked, the friends he played with, the activities he liked to join because he was scared of his mom’s punishment if something went wrong. He was also very violent in playing with his friends, he was easy to hit friends if someone did not do something he liked because he thought that hitting was the only thing to make other follow to him. Day by day, he became more and more violent and much more worse in behaviour, no one wanted to play with him and he fall into lonely situation and had to go to the hospital to treat his problem. My aunt also told me many different cases like my cousin in the hospital because of being spanking. Although spanking can help parents to form their children behavior in the good way, they don’t know that it can be affected in the bad side. Imagine using spanking like taking a kind of medicine, it will harm to our health if we use it too much or in the wrong way. Spanking is also form a bad habit like telling lie and the bad behaviour like being more violent for children which are opposite with the ones their parents expect.

  Spanking which affects badly in children’s physical and mental development, in their behaviour are being used too often in many families in Vietnam. Parents who use spanking as a way to train their children send a message for their children that violence is the only way to solve problems in life. And it is not a good way to teach children by violent way if we don’t want them to become a bad people who are ready to hit others without any serious reason. In conclusion, we should teach children by other ways like talking with them to show them know what they should do or not, give them  good advice to solve problems and always stand by them whenever they are in trouble to help them become a good person in life instead of using violent punishment like spanking.

The harm of watching TV

 Television is one of the most popular entertainment of people around the world and is considered as the best friend of many families. Sitting in front of the small screen and enjoying the pleasure which comes from the TV programs make us reduce stress, forget the busy and annoyed life. However, not many of us can recognize that the more we watch TV, the more harmful we get.

Watching TV too much is very harmful for our health. It is not very difficult to find the crazy TV fans whose health is damaged by watching TV too much per day. Imagine that our day with 24 hours is a cake with 3 equal parts and we should spend one-third of this cake for sleeping, another one-third for working or studying and the last part for doing other activities and enjoying our life. However, the crazy TV fans -most of them are teenagers tend to watch TV from 6 to 8 hours a day. That means they lack of time to sleep , to do exercise, to join in some outdoor activities and that also means they don’t have time to take care of themselves. Don’t have time to sleep, to exercise, to take care of themselves is an easy way to damage their health. It is also much more serious when they spend almost of time to watch only the motion pictures from TV without thinking because it may harm their brain. Sitting in front of the TV for hours can also damage their eyes. It is the reason to explain why students today are easy to be short-sighted and seem too passive to  accept easily everything that their teachers give without asking anything about the new lessons. I wondered that why the teachers just try to find the new methods for their students to  be more active in the class or to reduce the work for them to avoid short-sighted problem but not think about asking their students’ parents to limit the time they watch TV. It is the good way for them to reduce the number of passive students. We cannot deny that watching TV is the good way to relax, reduce stress and even the best way for us to enjoy our weekend with our family. However, when we watch TV too much like the way the youth are doing, what we get are being passive in our mind, having weak eyes, lacking of time to take care of ourselves. So if we don’t want to get the harm from television for our health, we should limit the time we watch TV.

The more we spend time in front of the TV, the more addicted we turn into, the worse our behaviour is. We all know that when we like any program on TV, we are very excited about them and wait for the time that program coming. With me, when I was in high school, I loved watching film on Disney channel, especially “Hannah Montana”, I spent almost of my time to watch it although I might not finish my homework. I did not care about anything happened around me, no one could attract me to talk about any topic, I always gave them an answer that: “wait me a second” and let them wait me for hours. At that time, I was addicted to watching TV and I could only stop it when I noticed that how worse my studying became. According to many researches, when people are crazy with their favorite programs on TV like me in the past,  they don’t want to do anything, seem to forget their real life and jump into the world with unrealistic state and try to imitate everything they watch on TV. When we mimic the characters’ behaviour and attitude, of course, we can have the good behaviour like the good characters and we can be easier to do the bad things like the bad one. That is the reason why there are more murderers, more shoplifters and more people who do illegal things and the age of them are lower and lower day by day because there are more people, especially the youth to be affected by watching the violent programs on TV.   Although,  we know that from TV we can learn many lessons from life through some films, some programs but we are also damaged by watching too much violent and bad programs that can form our bad habits, our bad attitude and our bad behaviour.

TV can be very harmful for our health, our life like having the bad behaviour if we watch TV too much and if we watch the violent programs and try to do the same things like the bad characters on TV. Remember that watching TV only helps us to relax, reduce stress and enlarge our sight when we know how long we should stay in front of it. THE KINDNESS OF THE STRANGER

                                                              When I was growing up, children were commonly taught: “don’t talk to the strangers, don’t care about the strangers and especially don’t believe in them because whoever is not familiar with us will not be ready to help us, they just want to cheat us to have some benifits”. That saying was always in my mind until I read my favorite book -“soul seed” with the lesson about the kindness of the stranger. That story was about the 25 year-old man who did not believe in the help of the stranger traveling by walking 6 weeks around the USA with a very little money to find out if there were the kindness from the stranger or not. Without a lot of money, he noticed that the kindness was everywhere because he could receive 2 loaves of sandwich from a 7 year-old boy selling sandwich when he was very hungry sitting in the corner of the street, the newest coat of the poor painter who just had 2 new coats a year when his coat was worn out, 2 days living and treating his stomachache in the old retired doctor’s house and countless time getting a gift and many things from the strangers during his trip. And thanks to this story, that made me believe more in life and tried to receive the help from the stranger once that I had never done before. Now I still remember everything happened in that day, the day I realised the value of life-the kindness of the stranger.

     It was a Sunday afternoon in the end of last August, I went to my friend’s house in district 1 and came back at 9 p.m, the time for the last bus I thought. Waiting at the bus station alone, listening and singing “a little love”-my favorite song, seeing the most animated district in the evening was very awsome at first. However after 15 minutes waiting, I recognised that noone except me was waiting there, I felt a little worried looking around, asked some people walking along the street and knew that the last bus was over 30 minutes before. “Oh my god! What happen? How can I come back home?...”. Many questions appeared in my mind with no answers, I became much more worried when I could not contact with my friend through my cellphone. “Is her cellphone out of work? And if I can contact with her, how can she come to district 1 from Thu duc to pick me up?”. I started cried and tears were pouring down my face and I had no idea what to do. Suddently, a very luxury red car stopped in front of me made me very scared. The man was nicely and fashionably dressed with black leather shoes, a smart suit and a suitable blue and black striped tie getting off the car and asking me if I needed any help in a gentle and warm voice: “Do you need any help, little girl? It is too late for you to stay alone in the street like this”. I could not open my mouth to say anything because of scaring the strange but nice-looking man. He reminded me about the story in “soul seed” book so that after a few minutes worried and scared, I told him the fact that I could not go home for I missed the bus and waited for his help-the help from the stranger. Immediately, he told me to get into his car and he would let me get a lift. Because I could not take the bus, because I also wanted to know that there was the kindness from the strangers or not, I stepped up his car, sat next to his seat without thinking about any danger he might give me.

           When he closed the door next to me, got into his car and continued to close his door, started the car engine, I started to worry. I did not know why I could believe in the strange man who I had never seen before, why I did not think about the danger in front of me. The cold, fresh air from the car air condition made me getting colder and colder and be worried sick about the stranger next to me. My heart beated and beated very fast as if I were having a very important and stressful exam. The strange man and I did not talk anything together so that I was startle by the ring of the phone coming from my roomate-Thanh. “Hey Mui! Have u come back yet? Too late!”, she said. “Don’t worry! I will be back soon. I am getting a lift from the kind man, girl.” I answered. “ What? A kind man? Who? Be careful! He may cheat you, Mui.”, she said. “I’m OK, see u soon, bye!”, I stopped the conversation because I did not want my friend to worry and because I wanted to be well-prepaired to protect myself in the worst situation that may happened. Looking like the strange man could read anything in my mind, he said with the warm voice: “I’m a doctor in Thu Duc hospital, I will drive you home on the way I come home, you should not be worried, I will not cheat you”. Listening every word he said, I could keep calm but was still scared until he looked at me by his bright eyes in the dark which made me feel very safe. He told me about his university life in the past and his own life as a doctor now. The stranger but very friendly gave me a piece of good advice  and made me believe more in life. After 30 minutes, his car turned right and stopped in front of the gate of my rent house. Very polite and gentle, he got off the car and opened the door for me to go out of the car. Saying good bye him in the grateful, I stood there stunned looking at his car moving very fast forward until I could not see it. Going to my room but I could not stop thinking about him- the strange but very kind man with his wholehearted help.

      Thanks to the man who was ready to let me get the lift, who made me believe in my favorite book story that there is the kindness from the stranger, who made me understand clearly the saying in the final of that book: “believe in our life because the kindness is everywhere if we open our heart to receive it”. Now I strongly believe in that and try to help the other, especially the stranger who is in need in order to prove with others that the kindness from the stranger is real, in order to join hands to make our life better.
